Jay Edward Lillquist

September 2, 1958 ~ February 21, 2019 (age 60)
Jay Lillquist – also known as “The Happy Cooker” - was born September 2, 1958 and passed away unexpectantly in Seattle, Washington on February 21, 2019. Jay spent his early years in Edmonds, Washington, but moved to Vashon Island to join his father, (Gustav) Gus Lillquist shortly after Gus married the former Marie Shride. Jay graduated from Vashon High School in 1976. While Jay worked at different jobs to pay the bills his heart and soul were in being a Chef and operating his “The Happy Cooker” business catering different events. When not working, Jay enjoyed riding his motorcycle, cooking for family and friends and just spending time with his friends. In addition to his carrot cake, Jay is best known for his tie-dyed shirts and the collection of warm wool hats and gloves, which he bought and gave out during the winter months to those less fortunate. Jay was a devoted son, a caring brother and a loyal, supportive and generous friend. He refused to follow parental advice about not talking to strangers as he truly believed that everyone he came in contact with was just a friend he had not yet met. Jay was preceded in death by his father, Gus Lillquist, his step-mother, Marie Lillquist, and his mother, Myra Scott. He is survived by his five step-siblings: Carolyn Wingfield, Tanya Michaels, Mike Shride, Brad Shride, and Kimm Shride, and more friends than can be counted. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Vashon Funeral Home at 18005 Vashon Hwy. SW, Vashon, WA 98070
