Leonard Patrick (Pat) Engrissei passed away the evening of July 31, 2019 at his home on Vashon Island, WA. Pat was born on October 6, 1938 in Peoria, IL to Frank and Clara (Barth) Engrissei, both deceased. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Michael. He is survived by his children, Anthony, Regina, Marcella and Dominic, his sister, Jaqueline (Engrissei) Verstegen, his brothers, James, Thomas, and Lawrence, granddaughter Aireka, ex-wife Sue (Call) Engrissei, Life Partner Kathy Keck, in-laws Lyle, Cathy & Marianne, numerous nieces, grand-nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, aunts and cousins across the country.
Pat was a graduate of Spalding Institute (Peoria, IL) and returned to school completing his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Southern Illinois University (Carbondale, IL). Between high school and college, he was employed by AT&T installing communication equipment including the first long distance direct dial computer systems in the Midwest. After obtaining his Masters degree, he worked as an investigator for the US government, resigning to stay in Washington rather than taking a post in California.
For the past quarter century Pat was recognized by many residents of Vashon as the Metro driver on the afternoon routes from one ferry dock, around the island to the other. His welcoming smile and decorations of the bus, from his daily flowers to his Halloween ride-along haunt were looked forward to by all. He will be dearly missed by his acquaintances and friends, in particular Craig and Lynette Beles. His niece, who attended WSU, was always finding people who knew him when she found out they were from Vashon. Pat was a lover of fine food, spirits and wine. He had a keen interest in music, learning to play the piano at an early age. He enjoyed driving across country to visit family and friends, in later years with his brother Tom. He was a free spirit and the quintessential renaissance man.
At his request, a celebration of his life will be held on September 14, 2019 from 3:00 till 6:00 PM at the house he lived in on Bachelor Road.
