Berna Dean McCarter Bradley was called to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sept.12, 2016. She was 99 and 1/2 years old, born on April 21, 1917.

She had been a resident of Vashon Island for almost 6 years, after moving here from Memphis, Tennessee.

Berna enjoyed a full productive life, as a devoted wife, loving mother, active in her church, and as an elementary school teacher.

She taught school until she was 86 years old.

Berna was born in Elmore County, Alabama, in the deep rural South.

After finishing high school, she went on to receive her teachers' certificate at Livingston State Teachers College, and continued her education at the University of Alabama, and Auburn University.

She married Ormond Dixon Bradley in July of 1944, and they were together until his death in 1973.

Berna leaves behind her 2 sons, Mike and Alan, their wives, Marie and Lisa, 2 grand daughters, Alason and Mia, and 2 great grand children, Angus and Vivian.

She was an engaging woman, always an avid reader, and questing for more knowledge.
