VASHON, WA.Carolin Bloxsom Shoosmith, 76, died July 15, 2013, of melanoma.She was born to Norman Armstrong and Annie Williams Bloxsom on May 14, 1937, in Norfolk, VA. She graduated from Granby HS and was in the class of 1959 at the College of William and Mary where she became enamored of Williamsburg's traditions. After several moves during her early married life, Carolin settled in Williamsburg, VA in 1976, where she has lived until this year.She worked as secretary to the Landscape Department of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for nearly twenty years. In 1986, she married John N. Shoosmith, and they had wonderfully happy years skiing, canoeing, sailing, gardening, visiting their children, and traveling. Just last year they took a round-the-world cruise, and Carolin called home from Hong Kong to report having "the time of my life." Carolin loved the outdoors; one of her favorite pastimes was taking sailing trips with close friends. She was a spirited bridge player and was known for her quick ability to master new games and sports. She is survived by: Kevin Dennis and his wife, Lura (Las Vegas, NV); daughter Carolyn Randolph Dennis (Bellingham, WA); daughter Ann Elizabeth O'Brien and her husband, John (Vashon, WA); grandchildren and step-grandchildren Liam and Rosemary O'Brien, Rhys and Nataly Hovezak, Jenna, Maya, and Ava Shoosmith, Allison Menendez, and Nolan and Theo Baldwin.She is fondly remembered by step-children John P. Shoosmith (Oak Harbor, WA); Ann Menendez and her husband, Glen (Rush, NY); and Virginia Baldwin and her husband, Bill (Seattle, WA).There will be a memorial reception on Saturday, August 3 at 3:30 pm at the Queens Lake Clubhouse, 234 East Queens Drive, Williamsburg, VA. There will also be a memorial service at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Vashon, WA, at 11:00 am on August 17. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
