Obituary

Charlie, as he was known throughout life, died peacefully at home on October 25, 2010in Vashon, WA.Born in Coronado, CA, on February 17, 1952, to Helen R. Sampson and William S.Sampson, a Naval Aviator, he had a wonderful youth living in different locations, mostly islands,including Coronado, Newport, RI, and Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco Bay.He graduated from Coronado High School, attended the University of Utah, was marriedfor three years and had one daughter, Jessica.It was his love of the sea that drew him to Vashon from Utah in 1980. He worked formany years as a cook on fishing boats, was a carpenter and a caregiver.Charlie wrote beautiful poetry about fishing in Alaska, nature, and life in general.He is survived by his daughter, Jessice Morsey, her husband, Jason, and their twobeloved daughters, Gabriella and Madison, all of Hopewell Junction, NY; also, a brother, JohnSampson of Atlanta, GA, sister Helen Blanchard of Asheville, NC, an aunt, two nieces, threecousins, and his dear Vashon friend of thirty years, Gail Tucker.A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 4th, at 7:00 pm at Island FuneralService.His ashes will be scattered at the water's edge at his aunt's home at Lake Pleasant, NY,in the Adirondack Mountains.
