Obituary

Velma Diane Kraabel July 7, 1934 – February 26, 2017 Diane was born in Tacoma and lived in Washington her whole life. She grew up in Enumclaw and Federal way, living for a time at Lakota beach. She attended the University of Puget Sound where she met and married Richard Kraabel in 1954. They divorced in 1982.

She is survived by their three sons, Thomas Kraabel (Jean) of Vashon Island, Terrence Kraabel (Julie) of Tacoma, and Timothy Kraabel (Beth) also of Vashon. She raised her sons in Burien and owned the Baskin and Robbins store at five corners for many years. She considered raising her children as her life's work and she wanted to be best remembered as "mom". She took great pride in the fact that all three sons graduated from college.

Diane loved to cook and garden. She loved dogs, especially terriers. She always had two dogs, typically a Scottie and a Westie. She also had a Scottie and Westie figurine collection that could fill a wing of the Louvre. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Kate, Geoffrey, Evan, Aubrey, Adam, Stuart, and Nicholas. She loved being a grandma and adored her grandchildren. It had long been her dream to live on Vashon Island. She moved to Vashon community care center a year or so ago and lived there up until her death.
