Obituary

Dorothy Andersen was born in Akiak, Alaska on June 30, 1931, to Ole and Emily Andersen, joining a brother Rolf and a sister Margarethe. At the age of 82, she passed away in Roseburg, Oregon, on September 28, 2013.

When her sister Margarethe died in 1931, the family later moved to Vashon Island, settling in the Community of cove. In 1943 tragedy hit the family when her brother Rolf and three other close friends drowned while sailing in Puget Sound.This was a very difficult time for the entire Island.

Dorothy attended Columbia Grade school and the Vashon High School.She was always an excellent student and graduated with honors. After high school she went into nurses training, graduating from Tacoma General Hospital as an R.N.

She married Robert Jacobson in 1951 and when he joined the Navy he was stationed in Hawaii so Dorothy went to work at the Shriner's Hospital in Honolulu.

In 1954 they moved to Roseburg, Oregon where they raised their two daughters, Lynne and Lori.They spent many wonderful years together, travelling to Hawaii, Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, as well as the various states.With their close friends from Vashon they had a great trip to Washington DC and enjoyed their annual treks to Reno and Lake Tahoe. Dorothy was a big sports fan and particularly loved watching various sporting events on TV.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert Jacobson; daughters Lynne Jacobson-Ballard and Lori Jacobson; grandchildren; Erin Goodell of San Jose, California; Grant Goodell of las Vegas, Nevada and Marc Goodell of Vancouver, Washington.

Interment will take place in the Andersen family lot at the Vashon Cemetery on October 29, 2014 at 11am.
