Esther was born on Vashon, Washington on April 13, 1934 (Friday the Thirteenth) to George and Margaret (Ward) Schmidt.She died on Monday, March 28, 2011, at the age of 76 at The Right Place Adult Family Home in Seattle, Washington.Esther attended Vashon Grade School and Vashon High School.Esther's mother, Margaret died when Esther was 15.She left school at that time to help care for her 3 younger siblings.She married Ted Calhoun on December 12, 1956.Esther worked a combined 37 years for Clark's Ferry Concessions in the Galley and Washington State Ferries as a Ticket Taker and Dock Attendant.Many Islanders remember her as the tall woman with the long black hair blowing in the wind.Esther enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers in her yard on Parking Lot Hill where she lived for 49 years.She also enjoyed Keno, Bingo, Reno trips, and her family.She was preceded in death by both of her parents and two sisters, Miggy Willsie and Myla Garvin.Esther is survived by her sons Scott Calhoun and wife Christy of Vashon, and Ron Calhoun of Vashon; grandchildren Aaron, Chelsey, and Justin Calhoun of Vashon; sister, Elsa Mae Williams of Vashon, her twin brother, Ed Schmidt of Vashon, and her brother, George Schmidt of Seattle, as well as many nieces and nephews.A private family service was held.Please visit our online guest book at www.islandfuneral.com
