Sadly our family announces the peaceful passing of Harold, on Jan. 10th, at his daughter, Monica Pellegrini's home, at the age of 83.Harold was born in Pendelton, OR on April 4, 1931, to Karl & Rosa Mann. He graduated from Vashon High School and then served in the US Navy during the Korean War.After his naval service he returned to Vashon and later met and married Janet Harlin in 1962.

Harold had many jobs through out his life, The Washington Co-op, K2, both here on Vashon.Boeing, International Harvester, a heavy equipment parts salesman through out WA and OR for SJP Enterprises, before partnering in the Vashon Radio Shack in the early 80's, just to name a few.In 1985 after his father's passing, Harold then took over his father's tractor service full time.

In the early 1990's, it was Harold's idea to put lights around the deer shaped pond during the winter holidays, that his brother "Willy" Mann built in 1989.His idea then grew to adding a lighted red nose, which islander's now fondly know as the "Rudolph" or just the "deer pond" on Cemetery Rd..He was amazed at all the attention and how a simple idea became known locally, nationally and even world wide, through many varieties of news media. One of Harold's favorite down times was his love of traveling, taking many planned and spontaneous road trips and he looked forward to his annual trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with friends and family.

Harold was preceded in death by his son Mark Mann in 1989 and his wife, Janet Mann, in 2003. Harold is survived by his brother, William "Willy" Mann, daughters, Petra Mann and Monica Pellegrini and son-in-law, William Hoolahan and several nieces and nephews and many friends.His family also wants to give a very special thanks to everyone working for Hospice here on Vashon Island.You all made it possible for our father to come home, where he wanted to be, with family and friends.

The family will be having a "Celebration of Harold's Life" on Sunday, February 8th at the Vashon Sportsman's Club, from 1:00 to 4:00PM. We welcome all to share in his wonderful spirit, kindness, generosity, humor and talent of storytelling. For remembrances in Harold's name can be made to the VCC Foundation.
