Harold E. Squire, Jr. passed away in Tacoma, WA on January 2, 2021. He was born in Berkeley, CA, on August 27, 1926, to Harold Squire, Sr. and Ruth McClain Squire.

Nicknamed Rusty for his red hair, he graduated from high school early and enlisted in the US Navy in 1944. He trained as a tail gunner in a PB4Y-2 Privateer, but the war ended before he saw combat. During the rest of his enlistment, he served as a shore patrol.

After having returned to civilian life Rusty graduated from Woodbury College. He and Margaret "Peggy" Peverill eloped to Las Vegas, NV in 1948, and they celebrated their seventy-second wedding anniversary this past October.

Rusty spent the final twenty-nine years of his working life with Lockheed in California, New Jersey and finally Washington. He and Peggy loved living on Vashon Island and opted to retire there.

In addition to his wife, Rusty leaves three children: Candace Costa of Sacramento, CA; Cheri Curran and husband Timothy of Ellington, CT; and Peverill Squire and wife Janet Lindstrom of Columbia, MO. He will be missed by his eight beloved grandchildren: Zachariah Babayco, Benjamin Babayco, and Samuel Babayco, all of California; Matthew Curran of Maryland; Joshua Curran of New Jersey; Sarah Curran Morin of Connecticut; Russell Squire of Minnesota; and Emma Squire of Pennsylvania. He also was delighted that he had five great-grandchildren: Catherine and Julia Curran; Aidan and Natalie Curran; and Jacob Morin. In recent years Rusty and Peggy were very fortunate to have had the caring assistance of Nancy Pendergast.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA, where Rusty logged over 1,000 volunteer hours as a docent; or to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Vashon Island, WA, where he and Peggy were longtime congregants.

There will be no memorial service at this time due to Covid restrictions. Interment will be in the Memorial Garden at Church of the Holy Spirit, Vashon Island, WA. A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date.
