Together Again

Our beloved parents, Herman and Dorothy Kosir passed away after 62 years of marriage in Gig Harbor, WA. Herman, 82, passed on September 11, 2013, and Dorothy, 89, peacefully joined him almost ten years later on August 10, 2022.

Herman and Dorothy met at a barn dance in Fingal, ND in 1949. They married on September 10, 1951, at Saint Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City, ND. Life for this Midwest couple was filled with faith, laughter, hard work, and the desire to venture out west.

During their 62 years of marriage the couple enjoyed life at Camp Pendleton where Herman was stationed as a Marine. Later they ventured to Seattle, WA where they started their family and Herman worked as a machinist for Boeing. In 1967 the Kosir family moved to Vashon Island, WA where they continued to raise their five children and built life-long friendships with many wonderful islanders. While living on Vashon the couple owned and operated Vashon Island Nursery. Herman also worked at the K2 Ski Company and Dorothy worked at the local pharmacy.

Herman and Dorothy embraced their Midwest values throughout their lives and never faltered in their love for one another. Together they gardened, supported their faith community, were members in the local Eagles chapter, and found time to volunteer and help others whenever help was needed.

Herman and Dorothy are survived by their five children (Debra Kosir, Kevin Kosir, Susan Laughlin, Pamela Mills, and Amy Solis), nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The couple will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.

A Memorial Service for Dorothy Kosir will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Covington Community Park from 10:00am-2:00pm. All friends of the family are welcome to attend.
