Ina (Gaylord) O'Neill was born August 25, 1928 to Lawrence and Jessie (Brown) Gaylord in Rapid City, South Dakota, the third of four children.When just a year old she moved with her family to Crescent City, California.She had many stories of playing in the redwoods, attending a one-room school and growing up during the depression.

The Gaylord family moved to Grants Pass, Oregon and bought a small farm where Ina helped her father with the plowing and rode her horse in the town parades.After graduating from Grants Pass high school at the age of sixteen, Ina attended Oregon State University.She was a loyal Beaver for the rest of her life.At OSU she met her first husband, Gale Staley, with whom she had three children.

During most of her working career Ina was a legal secretary.After her divorce from Gale, she leaped from a small Oregon town to become an executive secretary for one of Seattle's largest law firms.In Seattle she met her second husband, Joseph O'Neill.Ina and Joe loved to travel and were married in Mexico in 1978.They got a kick out of having a marriage certificate in Spanish which no one else in the family could read.Joe was diagnosed with cancer and Ina nursed him at home until his death in 1989.After Joe's death Ina continued to travel, learn and meet new people through Elder Hostel programs.

During her life, Ina faced with fortitude both Lupus and Parkinson's Disease.Ina was so stoic and upbeat that even people close to her didn't always recognize the depth of suffering she endured.Though the illnesses slowly took away her ability to travel, and then her independence, she continued to find enjoyment where she could.She was a voracious reader, loved animals and enjoyed watching nature outside her door.

Ina looked forward each month to meetings of the Vashon Parkinson's Disease support group.The family would like to give special thanks to this group which welcomes every individual with love and respect.

On November 4, 2012, Ina passed away.She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Jessie, a brother, Gerald Gaylord, her son, Michael Staley, and husband, Joe.She is survived by two sisters, Helen Johnston and Bobbie Poindexter, son Steve Staley, daughter Debra Paulsen (Vashon), son-in-law Dick Paulsen (Vashon), daughter-in-law Wanita Staley, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.She is also missed by her constant companion, Banjo the Granddog.

No memorial service is planned, however all those with Parkinson's Disease and their Caregivers are invited to share stories and laughter at the PD support group meeting in December.Ina's ashes will be placed with her parents in southern Oregon.
