Inez (Iney) Clara Nichols passed away of natural causes in her little farmhouse on Vashon Island on December 14, 2016, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Astoria, Oregon, to Amelia and Nells Ludwigsen on June 11, 1920, Iney was one of eight children. The family later moved to Seattle, Washington, where she attended Queen Anne High School. Her family relocated to Alaska, traveling there on a fishing boat built by her father. She settled in Ketchikan and married Carl Russell Carlson in 1941.

Later, in 1956, she married Edwin Cyrus Nichols of Vashon Island. Iney loved her life on Vashon. Iney and Ed had many pets they adored over the years. In addition, they enjoyed raising chickens, growing a large garden, providing a gathering place for all friends and family, and establishing traditions like the annual apple squeeze. Iney was the oldest active member of the local Kingdom Hall and was cherished by the brothers and sisters of the congregation. Iney was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin Cyrus Nichols in May of 2011.

Iney is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Jeanine Carlson, of Vashon Island; her son, David Carlson, of Thailand; her step-daughter, Lorraine Jackson, of Bremerton; her step-son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Laurie Nichols, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; her step-daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Robert Olson, of Federal Way; grandchildren Shauna, Robert, Brittany, Jenay, Barbara, Lyman, Bryan, Gina, Jarrod, and Chad; and several loving great grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her seven siblings: Her sister, Cora Mosher, of Sitka, Alaska, and brother Herman Ludwigsen, of Ketchikan, and several nieces and nephews.

Iney will be remembered for the beauty she created in life, for her joyful and loving personality, and for the hospitality she extended to all family and friends who visited her on her little farm.

"Iney may also be remembered byislanders who welcomed her into their homes during the many years that she displayed and sold products as the Fuller Brush lady, also by former students who attended Vashon Grade School and experienced Iney's friendliness andassistance during her years as a playground supervisor."

She will be laid to rest with her husband Edwin at Tahoma National Cemetery. A memorial will be held at 12:00 on Saturday, January 28, at the Kingdom Hall on Vashon Island.
