Jens Olaf
Pedersen
Sep 12, 1926 — Feb 22, 2017
Jens Olaf Pedersen, age 90, passed away after a short illness at Swedish Hospital on Wednesday,
February 22, 2017.
He was born in Astoria, Oregon on September 12, 1926 to Jens O. Pedersen and Elsie C.
Pedersen Dreyer. He lived in various lighthouses where his father was a lighthouse keeper, but most notably lived at Point Robinson from age 10 years till he was drafted into the Army. Jens served with the Sixth Infantry division in the Philippines, then Korea for occupation duty. He reenlisted for another year and a half and went to Hell on Wheels in Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
After the service, Jens worked for Bethlehem Steel, as an auto mechanic, a furnace repairman, and eventually got his Able-bodied Seaman's certificate and worked for and retired from the Washington State Ferry System. He enjoyed camping with his wife, Midge and her family, loved to travel and learn new things. He was an amazing wood worker having created elaborate and beautiful toys for his family and friends. He enjoyed water aerobics three times a week with his "swimmer" friends on the island and flying RC planes at the airport. He had a full and amazing life.
Jens is preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Mildred Austin Pedersen, and survived by his four children: Jerry Pedersen, Jens Eric Pedersen, Janine Pedersen Brazier, and Richard Pedersen, several grandchildren, and many adoring step children, step grandchildren, and a step great grandchild.
Always the frugal and sensible one, Jens chose to not have a service of any kind.
