June Lucille Samuelson was born on June 12, 1916 in Seattle.She was the sixth of seven children born to George and Rosina Cook and lived in Ballard throughout her school years.June married Arvid Samuelson in 1937 and moved to the Alki Beach area; a favorite of her family during her early years where she often would be seen with her sisters Phylis, Edith, Helen, and Ruth at Luna Park and Alki Beach.With her husband and infant son they moved into their house overlooking the water south of Alki point and stayed until 1992 when she moved to Vashon Island with her son and his wife Liliana, and her beloved granddaughter Marisa.

June had a long career as a tailoring instructor, beginning in 1945 and culminating in1993 when she finally retired.She began at Edison Technical School which became Seattle Community College.Later she also held classes at South Seattle Community College and for a time taught evening classes at West Seattle High School.Over these many years she experienced a large turnout of students and many became her friends, often visiting her large upstairs sewing room and her powerful old SingerSewing machine.

The outdoors continued to beckon her and her family.Along with her nephew, George Mahler, they built a cabin at Hermosa Point and spent many a summer day salmon fishing out of the "Jaycee", the cabin cruiser nicknamed for her.Her husband Arvid passed away in 1975 and years later she and her son purchased another cabin on Hartstine Island which she again enjoyed until very recently.She enjoyed the house on Vashon, sitting on the deck watching the eagles and hawks fly about and soar up into the trees right up until the end.

June spent the last five months of her life at home with her family under theexceptional care of the Vashon Providence Hospice team.She is survived by her son Victor, his wife Liliana, granddaughter Marisa, and numerous nieces and nephews.A private celebration of her life will be held in the near future.
