Marcia Jane Montgomery 1932 ~ 2017

Marcia came into the world with the festive celebration of fireworks July 4th 1932, Seattle, WA. With an appropriate legacy to her fun-loving, giving and spirited soul, after prolonged illness, she stepped into Heaven during the most beautiful time of year, Christmas Eve 2017, on Vashon Island, WA.

She grew up in Montlake, WA, and Vashon Island - being her familiy's Summer and weekend home where she and the love of her life, Don, eventually raised their three children. Marcia and Don also made a home for themselves in Rochester WA for more than 20 years before returning to Vashon, where Marcia always considered "home".

She attended the University of Washington, and worked at the Seattle Times Newspaper as a young woman.

Marcia had a love for animals and children and a passion for horses which her father shared.

These interests led her to being a teacher's assistant for special needs children in middle school, involvement with Ryther League, Sunday School assistance and volunteering, horse training and raising, trail blazing, and rides in the mountains where her love for nature and the outdoors was so enjoyed.

She was a great support and often active part of her children and grandchildren's lives within their activities and interests such as; Pony Club, football, softball, track and field, soccer, theatre, and leading her daughter's Blue Bird/Camp Fire Girls group.

She was part of the elite "Motley Crew" group of Vashon for those who are young at heart, adventurous, and can keep up with Carol Slaughter!

Marcia was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She will be so very missed.

Survived by her children: Philip Montgomery, Dianne Montgomery, Jana Douglas-Lavery. In-laws: Cle Montgomery and Frank Lavery. Grandchildren: Richard Montgomery, Jenny Blakely (Mike), Joel Chiswell, Aaron Chiswell, Rheanna Douglas, Lauren Douglas, Aundra Douglas, Jackson Douglas, Evee Douglas. Great Grandchildren: Lainee, Sara, and Michael.

Preceded in death by husband Donald Montgomery, brother Richard Safley, and son-in-law Don Douglas.

The family would like to thank VCC and Hospice for the loving care given. A memorial service is to be announced come Spring.
