Marie Hazel Sovold, nee Johansen, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Art, on September 6, 2013.Marie (Mary) and Art both grew up on Vashon and were married on August 22, 1945.She graduated from Vashon High School and Peterson Business School in Seattle.She retired from the City of Des Moines after serving as the City Treasurer and later City Clerk.

Marie was born to Gertie and August Johansen on December 21, 1921.She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Barton, Stella, Norma, Ella, Amy and Ruby.She is survived by her sister Laura Andersen, children Cathleen Johnson (Joel), Susan Shoblom, Kenneth Sovold, Pamela Gruber (Josh), and Timothy Sovold (Maris), as well as twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held atVashon Island Cemetery on Friday, September 20 at 11:30 AM.A memorial service will be held at Midway Community Covenant Church in Des Moines on Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 PM.Memorials in her honor may be given to Midway Community Covenant Church or World Vision.
