Rande Stevens, nee Sarah Dawn Comstock 12/28/1968-6/29/2022

Sarah Dawn Comstock Stevens, also known as 'Rande', died on, or about, June 29, 2022. Rande passed away in her sleep. She was born December 22, 1968, in Toppenish, Washington, and was almost immediately adopted by Judith and Douglas Comstock on January 3, 1969.

Rande was always proud of her Native American heritage, and though she did not have the benefit of growing up in the Native American Community, she made efforts to establish her heritage. Enrollment research established that Sarah shared ancestry from the Yakama Tribe, The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, The Nez Perce Tribe and The Confederated Tribe of Siletz Indians. Enrollment with Tribes can be complicated by different rules established by each tribe. Though she was clearly from the Yakama Indian community, she sought the more formal connection, and was enrolled with the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, where her birth grandfather was a member.

Sarah was a person who had successful moments in finishing school and staying involved with her family. She had a good sense of humor and was a good cook. Her notebooks indicate that she collected recipes. Community members mention that she had musical interests, including classical music. She was a very social person and very vocal with her opinions. She also was a person who struggled with alcohol addiction, and a person who experienced homelessness several times.

Sarah leaves behind her four children, Alexander, Brandon, Summer and Jadzia.
