Ron was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He was the youngest of five children born to Dorothy and Herman Huber. He graduated from the south side high School and attended Youngstown University. He was active in youth activities with Methodist Churches in the Youngstown area. This is where he met Sally Mapstone. Ron and sally were married in 1951 and they raised two children, Kathleen and Russell. Ron joined the army in 1951 and was eventually stationed at Fort Lewis. Upon his discharge he decided to make Washington his new home. He worked for the H.J. Heinz Co. as a sales associate while living in Tacoma and was promoted to Branch manager in 1961 in S.L.C Utah. He volunteered on weekends to manage Camp Utaba in Utah with his family. In 1971 they moved back to Washington to manage Camp Burton for many years. In 1977 he married Joan Olney and they worked together at camp Burton until the mid 80's. Ron was then the first director of the current Senior Center on Vashon Island. After retiring Ron and Joan moved to Ocean Park, WA. for the summers and traveled extensively throughout Baja Mexico and Arizona eventually settling in Desert Hot Springs, CA. for the winter months. Ron had been a member of the First Baptist Church of S.L.C. Utah and the Burton Community Church. He also attended the United Methodist Church in Ocean Park and the United Methodist Church of Vashon. Ron was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis and the Vashon Eagles. Ron is survived by his children Kathy of Seattle, Russ of Vashon, and his first wife Sally Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his second wife Joan Huber and his stepdaughter Janelle. He is survived by his stepdaughters Jannine, Janette, Jennifer and their families, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Ron is also survived by his companion Sally Kimmel. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday February 9, 2014at 2:30pm at Camp Burton on Vashon Island. Sailing times for the ferry boat to Vashon are; from Fauntleroy in West Seattle 12:20 and 1:20 and from Point Defiance in Tacoma 12:35 or 1:40.
