Dockton nativeThelma Hansine Danielson Murphy born Oct. 24 1925 to parents John and Helene, passed away peacefully June 10, 2010.Thelma lived on the island most of her life.She married a Navy man and spent time in Hawaii, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and California but would always return home to the island.Along the way she raised four children.Bobby, Sheila, Paul, and Tommy.She lived her life to the fullest, loving her children and all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren that followed.In addition, she was especially close to her brother John's family and her extended family the Cadman's.After graduating from Vashon High School early Thelma held many jobs throughout her working career.Starting with the phone company, General Dynamics in San Diego, K2 back in the day, Boeing, and eventually retired from Alaska Airlines. After she retired Thelma volunteered at Granny's Attic.Her compassion for people showed when she took a job working for Virginia Hopper as a care giver for some folks not much older than herself. There are many things that can be said about this classy woman. She loved many things, cooking a Norwegian feast, or a plain pot roast, gardening and crossword puzzles. She was sharp as a tack.She read the Seattle Times every day, Time Magazine and National Geographic, being well informed on the all aspects of life was important to her.Most of all Thelma loved baseball, especially her Seattle Mariners.When Ken Griffey retired and the Mariners losing streak continued she thought she would throw in the towel as well. Her favorite things to do were being with her family. For many years we enjoyed the warmth of her home with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett or James Taylor playing in the background. Her music made the room full even when she was alone.Thelma was reserved, outspoken when necessary, humorous, smart, loving, gracious, a great mom and above all a courageous woman.She survived the loss of two of her children, Bob in 1985 and Sheila in 2008. She continued to live, and make her life as good as it gets.In October of 2009, she moved into Vashon Community Care Center. She felt comfortable there, and enjoyed the employees, and was well taken care of to her final End. Thelma is survived by her two sons and their wives. Paul and Darlene from Orcas Island, Tom and Maggie from Seattle, her 10 grand children and 15 great grand children.Her farewell words "the Party's over!"A graveside service at Vashon Cemetery 11AM Sat June 26, a celebration and a remembrance of her life from 1PM to 3PM at the Vashon Eagles.
