Obituary

Bill Grant died in his sleep on October 6th, 2013.He was 64.Bill grew up on Vashon, having moved here at the age of 10 with his brother Tony to live with their Aunt, Helen Pierce.He was a 1968 graduate of VHS, where he was playfully awarded the "cutest smile" title by his classmates.Bill was involved in Chess club, German Club, and Boys Letter Club.He was a member of the 1966-1967 VHS football team, which had an unbeaten record that season.

Bill attended Walt Whitman College for two years, and then enlisted in the United States Army.Bill served in the Army from 1970 a" 1979.He worked in electronics, serving in Germany.When he returned to the Seattle area he began working for Lawrence Electronics, staying for 33 years.He built specialized gauges for the airline industry to test for hydrogen corrosion in metals.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Esther Grant, his aunt, Helen Pierce, and his cousins Cathy Pierce Vincent, and Jim Pierce.He is survived by his brother, Tony Grant, of Edmonds, his cousins Judy Pierce Ringold and Deb Pierce McCabe, his niece Jessica Grant Anakar, and two great nephews.

Bill was a quiet, serious person who loved classical music and reading.History and science fiction novels were his favorites. People who knew him well would agree with his classmates that, although he seldom smiled, when he did smile he lit up the entire room.Bill had a very sweet, generous spirit, and he will be missed.

A ceremony to celebrate Bill's life will be held in Skykomish, Washington on November 9th.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vashon Island Food Bank.
