Bill was born to Helen and Emmanuel Lynn on July 18, 1924 in Defiance, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He took part in the liberation of France in 1944 and was wounded in Normandy. He moved his family to the island, purchasing and renovating an old, condemned schoolhouse while working at K-2 in maintenance and engineering, where he used his mechanical ability. Bill loved working on his house and cars, especially his Corvairs.

He also has a grandson, Shaun Lynn, of Vashon, Jordan Loa of Dallas, Texas and Megan McNamee of Temple, Texas, and three great-grandchildren.
