Obituary

Deborah Adams, 72, of Vashon Island, WA, passed away on September 5, 2021. She was and always will be immensely treasured.

Debbie was born on May 14, 1949 in Joliet, IL. After graduating from Glenbard East High School, she went on to a 40+ year career as a flight attendant for United. In 1972, Debbie married Gary Adams, her high school sweetheart and best friend of 56 years. They eventually settled in Seattle. One day, the young couple took the ferry to Vashon Island as a day trip and decided it was their true home. Together they had two beautiful daughters, Megan and Molly, and were happy to raise them in a safe and magical place.

Debbie loved to travel. She and Gary travelled frequently and took the girls to Honolulu every year. Debbie’s favorite place to visit was Hong Kong. Over the years and frequent flights to and from she made many friends and always delighted her daughters with sweet and unusual gifts, such as scarves, jewelry and stickers, from around the world. She had a knack for beautiful things.

Debbie was predeceased by her daughter, Molly. She is survived by her husband, Gary, sisters Judy and Linda, daughter, Megan and her grandchildren (Grace, Johnny, Haden and Jasper), and honorary sons Todd Johnson and Doug McKenzie.

Debbie was a voracious reader. She loved to garden and her beautiful dahlias but always welcomed small families of deer to have a snack or two. She also loved her time at the pool and doing water aerobics with her friends.

Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and she was happiest being a grandmother. Grandma Debbie made everything special, even the most ordinary times, with her warmth, laughter and cookies. What began as a Christmas baking tradition with her daughters grew into cookie making with her grandchildren on all occasions. And if they couldn’t be there with her to make them she’d make the prettiest cookies with pastel frosting and mail them to all.  She also loved to take them on trips. One trip to Mexico included an unforgettable cab ride that made Grandma Debbie roll with laughter every time she recounted the story. Grandma Debbie made everyone feel like family. Her kindness lives on through her daughter and grandchildren.
